Crissy Field Center is an education center for kids who may have had little experience in parks.
Located next to the Outpost nature play space and Field Station at Presidio Tunnel Tops, its programs teach leadership skills by bringing kids up close to nature and the environment, using the park as a classroom. Students learn about everything from watersheds to wildlife and can bring that knowledge back to their communities.
Crissy Field Center works with schools and community centers to offer programs at low or no cost to participants from historically underrepresented communities. It is not a drop-in public facility.
603 Mason St, San Francisco, CA 94129
Since opening in 2001, Crissy Field Center has served thousands of students through field trips, workshops, after school programs, summer camps, and more.
Parking for those with mobility limitations is available in the lot next to Crissy Field Center. An Assisted Listening System (ALS) is provided in Crissy Field Center gathering spaces and conference rooms.
Crissy Field Center is next door to one of the coolest science classrooms you’ll ever experience, the Field Station at Presidio Tunnel Tops. While Crissy Field Center is open only to kids in registered programs, anyone can drop into the Field Station.
Crissy Field Center is a program of the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy, the National Park Service, and the Presidio Trust – otherwise known as the Partnership for the Presidio.
Crissy Field Center first opened in 2001 following the revitalization of the northern waterfront led by the Parks Conservancy and National Park Service. An asphalt-covered Army industrial area was replaced by restored wetlands, trails, and beaches. Kids now learn about nature and science at Crissy Marsh.
In 2022, Crissy Field Center reopened in a fully remodeled building, remodeled at the same time Presidio Tunnel Tops was built. The center includes expanded classrooms, new Learning Labs, and a courtyard with an outdoor kitchen. It’s right next door to the Outpost nature play space and the Field Station, both public drop-in facilities.
It’s our goal to make sure people can enjoy the Presidio’s natural beauty for generations to come. We work to protect native plants and animals while reducing our impact on the environment.
The Presidio is San Francisco’s national park site, with endless trails, fun events, and unforgettable vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge.
