Public Transit to the Presidio

It's easy to get to the Presidio on public transit.

Leave your car at home and get to and from the Presidio using public transit or the free Presidio GO Shuttle.

You can get to the Presidio from San Francisco, the East Bay, the South Bay, and Marin on public transit. And the free, daily Presidio GO Shuttle picks you up at Embarcadero BART, the Transbay Terminal, and at Van Ness Avenue/Union Street.

From Within San Francisco

Presidio GO Shuttle: The Presidio GO Shuttle Downtown Route provides roundtrip service to and from the park. Pick it up at the Transbay Terminal, Embarcadero BART, or at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue/Union Street. It’s free and runs daily. A few weekday trips on the Downtown Route are available only to Presidio residents and tenants.

The Downtown Route ends at Presidio Transit Center, which is next to Presidio Visitor Center. There you can transfer to the free Presidio GO Shuttle South Hills Route to reach other park destinations.

San Francisco Muni: Several San Francisco Muni bus routes come directly into or near the Presidio.

  • Muni 28: Golden Gate Bridge
  • Muni 29: Baker Beach
  • Muni 30: Crissy Field
  • Muni 43: Presidio Visitor Center/Presidio Tunnel Tops
  • Muni 1: Short walk from the Presidio’s southern gates
  • Muni 45: Right outside the Lombard Gate

From the East Bay

First, travel into downtown San Francisco using one of these options:

  • Take BART to Embarcadero Station
  • Take an AC Transit or a WestCAT transbay bus to the Transbay Terminal
  • Take a ferry from Alameda, Oakland, or Vallejo to the Ferry Building

Then use one of these options to travel to the Presidio:

Presidio GO Shuttle: The Presidio GO Shuttle Downtown Route picks up riders at the Transbay Terminal and Embarcadero BART. Service is free and runs daily. A few weekday trips on the Downtown Route are available only to Presidio residents and tenants.

The Downtown Route ends at Presidio Transit Center, right next to Presidio Visitor Center. There you can transfer to the free Presidio GO Shuttle South Hills Route to reach other park destinations.

San Francisco Muni: Muni 30 picks up at several locations in downtown San Francisco and offers service to the Presidio’s Crissy Field. Muni 30 enters the Presidio on Mason Street and terminates at the parking lot next to Sports Basement. It’s about a 10-minute walk from there to Presidio Visitor Center and Presidio Transit Center, where you can pick up the Presidio GO Shuttle South Hills Route to connect to other park destinations.

Golden Gate Transit bus routes come across the Golden Gate Bridge and provide service to the Presidio at the following stops:

From the South Bay

First, travel into downtown San Francisco using one of these options:

  • Take  Caltrain and get off at the 4th and King Station
  • Take  SamTrans and get off at the Transbay Terminal
  • Take  BART from the Peninsula and get off at Embarcadero Station

Then use one of these options to travel to the Presidio:
