Rider Guide

The purpose of the Rider Guide is to give the basics about using the Presidio GO. If you have other questions, please check the FAQs or contact us at transportation@presidiotrust.gov. The Presidio GO Shuttle system provides transportation to and around the Presidio seven days a week. It is free and available to everyone (with the except of some trips that require a Presidio GO pass). The system features two routes. Presidio GO Downtown offers service between the Transbay Terminal, Embarcadero BART, and Union Street/Van Ness Avenue and the Presidio. The South Hills serves more than 20 destinations within the Presidio. Many stops are within a short walking distance from Muni or Golden Gate Transit bus lines.

Rules for Riding

  1. FLASH YOUR PASS – Presidio GO passes are required on some trips.
A Presidio GO pass is required on the Presidio GO Downtown route weekdays during some trips in the morning (7:30 am to 9 am) and evening (4:30 pm, 5 pm, 5:30 pm, and 6 pm) commute hours. Passes are given to those who work or live in the Presidio. If you do not have a pass, you will not be permitted to board the bus during these times. To inquire further, please contact the Presidio Trust Transportation Department at transportation@presidiotrust.gov or (415) 561-2739. To make the boarding process as efficient as possible, please show your pass to the driver as you board.
  2. OFFER YOUR SEAT - Please make seats at the front of the bus available to persons with disabilities and seniors.
Feel free to sit at the front of the bus, but stay alert so you can offer your seat to those that need it more than you do.
  3. KEEP IT SEALED - Keep all food and drinks in closed containers.
Eating is not allowed on the buses. Disposable cups are not permitted. Please dispose of beverages in disposable cups before boarding the bus.
  4. MIND YOUR MANNERS - Do not engage in behavior that might create a nuisance to the driver and other passengers.
Please avoid excessive noise – your fellow passengers would prefer it if you saved your phone call until you exit the bus and use headphones while listening to music.
  5. CARRY YOUR PET - Pets must be kept in a carrier.
Service animals are welcome on the buses. Other animals must be kept in a carrier. Leashed and muzzled dogs may be let on the shuttle at the driver’s discretion but may not sit on the seats. Please do not bring your non-service pet on Presidio GO during peak commute hours.

The Buses

Presidio buses

The Downtown buses are decorated with photos of the Presidio’s historic forest and the illuminated sign will read “EXPRESS PRESIDIO”. These buses are fueled on compressed natural gas and can seat up to 37 passengers plus standees. The wheelchair ramp is located at the front of the bus (ramp dimensions: 47” length by 31” width) and there is capacity for up to two wheelchairs. The bike racks can accommodate two bicycles.

The South Hills buses are smaller to better handle the Presidio’s big hills and narrow roads. Some buses fueled on compressed natural gas and the Presidio’s battery electric bus also operates on the South Hills Route. The buses have capacity for two wheelchairs. The bike racks can accommodate two bicycles.

Passes are given to those who work or live in the Presidio. You can also use a MUNI Visitor Passport or a Letterman Digital Arts Center Employee ID to ride on pass-restricted trips.

Downtown Route Seat Finder

The Downtown Route can become crowded during the commute hours. Use our Seat Finder Chart to find out which trips have the most seats available.

Catching and Boarding the Bus

Help out the driver by being visible and signaling when the bus approaches. Many Presidio GO stops are shared with other transit agencies and this lets the driver know when to stop.

Some bus stops have limited visibility due to lighting or other environmental factors. If this is the case, try to use bright, reflective clothing or safety lights.

Real-time Shuttle Info

The Presidio GO shuttles are generally on-time and you can rely on the schedule. However, sometimes heavy traffic can cause delays. You can track the shuttles in real-time and receive current arrival information in several ways:

  • Smartphone: Download the Transit App. This app also includes helpful trip planning tools.
  • Text message: Text “Presidio [Stop ID #]” to 41411.
  • Desktop computer: Visit www.presidiobus.com. The live map is also mobile friendly.

Bikes on the Bus

Each bus is equipped with a bike rack with capacity for two bikes. To load your bike onto the bus, first make sure the bus stops completely and the driver acknowledges you. Squeeze the handle and lower the rack. Place your bike in the rack and place the bar over your front wheel. When exiting, let the driver know you will be removing your bike. Remove your bike and fold up the rack.

Holiday Schedules

On federal holidays, the Presidio GO runs on a weekend schedule. On Christmas Day, there is no Presidio GO service.

Federal Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King. Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
