First built as a movie theater for the U.S. Army, the historic Presidio Theatre has been reborn as a modern performing arts space.

Step inside and you’ll find yourself standing where legendary comic Bob Hope once performed for grateful crowds of soldiers and their families.

While those days are gone, today this venue has been beautifully reimagined as a home for affordable live music, dance, theatre, and film.

The theatre and its outdoor plaza are also available for rent for public performances, parties, and events of all kinds.

Gratitude to the Margaret E. Haas Fund

Army families flocked to the theatre to watch movies from 1938 to 1994, when the military left and the Presidio became a national park site. The theatre was empty for two decades. In 2017, Margaret E. Haas Fund launched a two-year, painstaking rehabilitation to bring the theatre back to life. It opened its doors in September 2019 as an independent, non-profit performing arts organization.

Did You Know?

On August 28, 1994, the Presidio Theatre held a screening of Maverick. It was to be the last film the Presidio Theatre would ever show in the Army era.
