Built in 1989 when the Presidio was still a military post, Presidio Bowl remains true to its mission of entertaining the "troops." Depending on the hour and day of the week, you'll be greeted by elementary-school squeals or roars from league bowlers when someone gets a ham bone (four strikes in a row).
Bowling is the essence of old-school fun, but patrons enjoy all the latest innovations, including video screens with automatic scoring, pop-up kid bumpers, and an lnternet-connected jukebox.
You don't have to rent a pair of bowling shoes to place an order at the walk-up bar and grill. There you'll find most of your favorites – including, spicy chicken wings, crispy tater tots, and mini corn dogs. The burger has more than a few fans, and people have been known to come just for the curly fries. The full bar offers 50 types of beer, 19 wines, and even a white Russian – if that's how you roll.
Presidio Bowl is a popular venue for parties, which include reserved lanes, in-house catering, and a side room for celebrating the guest of honor. Classic video games – including Pac-Man – pinball machines, and a foosball table help keep the party going. Groups of six or more (21 and over, please) can request a lane-side cooler on wheels filled with 18 iced beers. The entire center can be rented for large events.
A different sort of party happens on Friday and Saturdays, 10 pm to 1 am – "glow in the park" bowling with black light, music videos on big screens, and a laser light show on the lanes. On weeknights, adult bowling leagues are always a party. They start up seasonally and are open to individuals and teams of all levels.
