Limited Parking Near Sports Basement/Outpost Playground

From July 2024 through summer 2025, the Presidio Trust is building a new picnic area next to the Outpost playground and Sports Basement. It will be known as the Outpost Meadow, with space for 240 picnickers. Parking will be more limited near Sports Basement during the construction period. Additional parking is available on the Main Post near the Presidio Visitor Center (215 Lincoln Boulevard) and across from East Beach at Crissy Field. The playground and Sports Basement are open during construction. Thank you for your understanding.
Both retailer and community center, Sports Basement caters to outdoor enthusiasts, athletes, families, and visitors.

Step inside this 80,000 square foot building at Crissy Field and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into another world. With departments devoted to climbing, snow sports, shoes, and cycling, Sports Basement is a place where those who love outdoor fun will find everything from wetsuits to camping essentials.

Open daily, Sports Basement also offers workshops and community activities, including yoga classes and bicycle maintenance clinics. Not ready to buy? There are plenty of great rental options, too.

Insider Tip

Have dead batteries, old tennis balls, retired bike parts, worn out running shoes, or empty propane canisters you’ve been meaning to recycle? Take them to Sports Basement. And if you need to get some shopping done with the little ones in tow, the store has a kids’ play area to help make it easier for parents to browse.

Supporting Outdoor Adventure in the Presidio

Sports Basement opened in the Presidio in 2003 in the old U.S. Army commissary where soldiers once bought groceries. You’ll still see signs for the “Bakery” and “Fish” departments, an homage to the park’s past.

In the Middle of the Outdoor Action

Located on the Bay Trail SF not far from Crissy Field East Beach and right next to Presidio Tunnel Tops, it’s easy to drop into Sports Basement for a snack bar, a Frisbee, or even a jacket when the fog rolls in.
