The YMCA, like the Presidio itself, is a place where everyone belongs. They offer affordable programs for everyone from youth to seniors and support many community activities, including the park’s annual Holiday Lights tree lighting.
There are several parking spaces for those with mobility limitations in the lot next to the YMCA. Contact them at (415) 447-9622 for details on accessibility at their facilities.
In warm months, the YMCA moves several fitness classes outdoors. Keep an eye on their calendar to find a group hike or outdoor cycling class.
The Presidio YMCA is more than a gym, it’s a community. They offer their programs in several facilities around the park.
The YMCA’s Main Post Fitness Center features a 3,277 square foot fitness floor with exercise machines, a group exercise room, a weight room, a cycling studio, a stretch room, a basketball court, and a child-care center where parents can drop off their kids while they work out. Work out alone, or join one of the many fitness classes offered daily.
The Letterman Pool, just behind the Letterman Digital Arts Center features an indoor six-lane, 25-yard pool where members can swim laps, get lessons, take aqua fitness classes, and enjoy a therapy pool and hot tub. Next door, the Letterman Gym hosts a basketball court, youth activities, day camps, bicycle programs, and woodworking workshops.
The Presidio Y operates six tennis courts at four park locations, plus youth tennis programs.
The Y offers youth sports like basketball, tennis, and swimming, a variety of camps, after school programs and more.
The YMCA opened its first facilities in the Presidio in 1898 in order to serve Army soldiers during the Spanish-American War. It continued to operate on the post in war and peacetime until 1954. It wasn’t until 1997 that the YMCA returned to the Presidio. Today, more than 20,000 people across San Francisco use the Presidio YMCA’s facilities, programs, and services.
