
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 23, 2026 – Today, the Presidio Trust closed segments of two Presidio trails – the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail – to dog walkers due to the start of coyote pupping season, a time when coyote parents are especially active and protective of their den site. The goal of the closure is to reduce conflicts between coyotes, dogs, and people.
The trails will be closed to all dogs on or off-leash from March 27 through early October.
The Park Trail closure extends from Mountain Lake to the Presidio Promenade (near Cavalry Stables). The Bay Area Ridge Trail is closed from the Rob Hill Campground to the Presidio Golf Course.
Those with dogs are encouraged to use other of the park’s many trails which are found here on the website: https://presidio.gov/explore/trails. Park visitors and residents are advised to keep dogs on short leashes and under control at all times.
