We're making it easier and safer to get around the Presidio.

(Updated December 2025)
We’re making it easier and safer to get around the Presidio on foot, bike, wheels, and public transit through the Pave Plus project. In 2024, we began a multi-year effort. For the next several years, we’ll:
The goal is to create a great experience for everyone who is strolling and rolling, and to help us all share the roads more easily. This work is made possible thanks to a grant from the Federal Highway Administration. It’s part of Presidio Forward, through which we’re completing long planned and urgently needed improvements to the park’s infrastructure, open spaces, and historic buildings
When & Where We’re Working – Main Post Access and Paving Project
The Main Post Access and Paving Project looks to improve access and safety for park users visiting the Main Post, upgrade Main Post roadways and utility infrastructure, and highlight key historic elements from the Main Post’s past.
Construction is slated to begin next Summer 2026 and continue through the Fall.

Roadway and Bicycle Improvements
Parking Area Improvements
12. Officer’s Club Parking Lot
Presidio Boulevard (see #1 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re repaving the roadway and improving bike lanes and sidewalks to create a smoother and more comfortable experience for all—whether you’re walking, biking, or driving. Near the Lovers Lane trail, we’ll also add new traffic-calming features to improve safety and make it easier to navigate the Presidio. Expect fewer parking spaces during construction, as well as intermittent road closures and detours for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Mesa Street & Funston Avenue (see #2 & #3 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re restoring the historic traffic island along Presidio Boulevard between Funston Avenue and Mesa Street. This work will revive its character as part of the Presidio’s military past while also improving safety and accessibility with upgraded curb ramps, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
In select areas, the roadway will be regraded and repaved, and additional surface treatments will help protect the pavement from weather and heat, extending its lifespan. Construction will bring a temporary reduction in parking and occasional road closures with detours for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Keyes Avenue (see #4 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re applying a protective surface treatment to extend the life of the pavement. While the material is drying, access to the roadway and adjacent parking stalls will be limited. Plan ahead for temporary detours.
Moraga Avenue (see #5 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re enhancing pedestrian connections along this corridor with upgraded curb ramps, sidewalks, and crosswalks, making it easier and more enjoyable to travel on foot or by wheelchair. A protective surface treatment will also be applied to preserve the pavement. During work, roadway access and nearby parking will be temporarily restricted, with detours in place for all modes of travel.
Arguello Boulevard (see #6 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re repaving the roadway to provide a smoother ride and adding new sidewalks and curb ramps to improve accessibility. At the intersection of Moraga and Arguello, new traffic-calming features will increase safety for everyone moving through the area. Expect intermittent road closures and detours during construction.
Sheridan Avenue (see #7 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re improving safety and accessibility with new curb ramps, sidewalks, and crosswalks, while also adding traffic-calming upgrades at Sheridan and Montgomery Street. Expect intermittent road closures and detours during construction.
Infantry Terrace (see #8 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re applying a protective surface treatment to extend the life of the pavement. While the material is drying, access to the roadway and adjacent parking stalls will be limited. Plan ahead for temporary detours.
Bliss and Taylor Road (see #9 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re applying a protective surface treatment to extend the life of the pavement. While the material is drying, access to the roadway and adjacent parking stalls will be limited. Plan ahead for temporary detours.
Riley Avenue (see #10 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re applying a protective surface treatment to extend the life of the pavement. While the material is drying, access to the roadway and adjacent parking stalls will be limited. Plan ahead for temporary detours.
Battery Caufield Road (see #11 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re returning to finish upgrades that began in 2025, completing the repaving of the roadway for a smoother, safer experience whether you’re walking, biking, or driving. Work will require an intermittent closure, with detours in place for all travelers.
Officer’s Club Parking Lot (see #12 on map)
Timing: Spring 2026
We’re revitalizing the Officer’s Club Parking Lot with upgrades that honor the Presidio’s military history while improving accessibility for today’s visitors. The project includes improved ADA spaces, new sidewalks and ramps, and pavement improvements to extend the lot’s lifespan. Parking availability will be reduced during construction, with intermittent closures of the lot.
