In September, NBC Bay Area’s Joe Rosato Jr. reported on a set of murals in Building 1216 at the Presidio. The murals are normally off-limits to the public, but the Presidio Trust offered a special tour to Ian Gerber, son of Perren Gerber, the artist who painted a couple of the murals more than 60 years ago. Perren and several soldiers painted the murals while stationed at the Presidio in 1956 and 1957 as part of their training to become map makers. Currently, the murals will remain off-limits, but park preservationists said access could change when the building is rehabilitated.
