The City and County of San Francisco is hosting a July 4 fireworks display celebrating America’s 250th birthday. It will launch from the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge starting at 9:30 p.m. Details are on the City of San Francisco website.
If you’re planning to visit the Presidio for this historic event, leave your car at home and take public transit. We expect a very busy day in the park with heavy traffic and limited parking.
Expect traffic to be most congested near viewing areas. Being picked up or dropped off at a more distant location and walking may allow quicker travel, particularly after the fireworks display ends.
This page explains what to expect and how you can prepare for a successful visit. Check back regularly for updates.
Expect significant delays before and after the fireworks display. Note that the Golden Gate Bridge will be fully closed to traffic during the show.
Temporary traffic controls will be in place in the Presidio. Halleck Street connecting Crissy Field to the Main Post will be closed. Owen Street on the Main Post will also be closed. See map below.

Please look for detour signage and always follow directions from park staff and public safety personnel.
Rideshare pickup/drop off zones are located on the Main Post near the Presidio Visitor Center. See the map above.
The Presidio is accessible by Muni, which is adding extra service on July 4. Routes typically serving the Presidio include: 28, 29, 30, 43, 45. Be sure to check for adjustments to Muni routes serving the Presidio. Muni 28 will not serve the Golden Gate Bridge.

The free Presidio GO Shuttle Downtown Route offers round-trip service between the Salesforce Transit Center, Embarcadero BART, and the Presidio. Shuttles are wheelchair-accessible and feature bike racks. We are extending evening service on the Downtown Route and the Presidio GO South Hills route to 10:30 p.m. The last runs for both routes will leave the Presidio Transit Center at 10:30 p.m. Visit the Presidio GO Shuttle page for a route schedule and map.
Parking will be extremely limited, especially near Crissy Field, and will likely reach capacity early in the day. Paid parking with special event parking fees will be in effect and enforced. Learn about parking in the Presidio.
Private fireworks are prohibited within the Presidio and throughout San Francisco.
