Comfortable and Efficient Electric Busses Hit the Road in May

San Francisco, CA — (April 30, 2026) — Getting to and around the Presidio just got easier. The Presidio Trust is swapping out aging buses in its free Presidio GO Shuttle fleet with five comfortable and efficient battery-electric buses, promising a smoother and more accessible ride for park visitors, residents, and employees. The new shuttles are part of a wave of improvements to the park’s infrastructure, collectively called Presidio Forward.
Shuttles connect riders to downtown transit hubs, including BART and the Salesforce Transit Center. A ride from downtown San Francisco to the Presidio on the Presidio GO shuttle takes less than 30 minutes. The South Hills route winds through the park, serving popular destinations along the way. Both routes serve the Presidio Transit Center, just steps from the Presidio Visitor Center and Presidio Tunnel Tops.
A modern low-floor design allows riders to board easily without steps, improving access for wheelchair users, families with strollers, and others who benefit from easier entry. Passengers will also notice a quieter, more comfortable ride and an updated design that enhances the overall experience. Battery-electric buses have lower maintenance costs compared to the gas-fueled fleet. Their lower emissions help to improve air quality and reduce the impact of Trust operations on the environment. The upgrade makes the national park site’s fleet more than 50% electric.
“Presidio GO offers a free and convenient alternative to driving,” Presidio Trust Chief Park Officer Travis Beck said. “By reducing traffic and making it easy to get around the park, we’re creating a more enjoyable experience for everyone.” There are already two new buses on the road, with three more set to hit the streets by the end of May.
The Presidio GO Shuttle program was started in 2003 to make it easier for visitors, residents, and employees of the park’s businesses to access the Presidio. Last year its ridership saw a 12% increase, with more than 300,000 rides taken. For routes and schedules, visit: presidio.gov/presidio-go.
Presidio Forward builds on three decades of park-making to prepare the Presidio for tomorrow’s challenges. The Presidio Trust is making long planned and urgently needed improvements to the park’s infrastructure, open spaces, and historic buildings. The result will be an even more beautiful and welcoming Presidio that’s resilient for generations to come. For more information visit www.presidio.gov/forward.
The Presidio is one of America’s most visited national park sites, located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and is the ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone. Spanning 1,500 acres next to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio is among the most biologically diverse parks in America. It became a military post under three flags, and subsequently a national park site in 1994. Today, its facilities have been reinvented as museums, restaurants, hotels, homes, and offices. The Presidio Trust is the federal agency that stewards the Presidio, in partnership with the National Park Service and with support from the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The Trust sustains the Presidio by leasing homes and workplaces and offering visitor amenities. Learn more at presidio.gov and @presidiosf.
