San Francisco, CA (October 30, 2025) – The Presidio Trust is proud to announce that the Presidio of San Francisco has been awarded the internationally recognized Green Flag Award for the sixth consecutive year, underscoring its commitment to excellence in park management, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. The Presidio was the first U.S park to receive this award, joined by Seattle’s Seward Park in 2024.
The Green Flag Award, administered by the U.K. based charity Keep Britain Tidy, sets the standard for well-managed parks and green spaces. It recognizes public green spaces that meet the highest standards of park management. 2025 awardees comprise 2,599 parks and public spaces in 23 countries across the globe, from Australia to the United Arab Emirates.
“We’re honored to be recognized once again with the Green Flag Award and to stand alongside parks around the world that are working toward the same goals,” said Travis Beck, Chief Park Officer of the Presidio Trust. “This award connects us to an international community committed to caring for public green spaces that are sustainable, accessible, and forward-looking. We’re proud to be part of that effort and hope more in the United States will join us.”
The Presidio’s successful Green Flag Award application was evaluated across a wide range of management principles, including daily operations, health and safety, landscape maintenance, and community engagement. Recent projects such as the ongoing care of Presidio Tunnel Tops, the opening of its new extension Outpost Meadow, and the completion of the MUNI 30 bus terminus were highlighted as strong examples of thoughtful land stewardship and responsive park planning.

The Presidio is one of America’s most visited national park sites, located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Spanning 1,500 acres next to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio is among the most biologically diverse parks in America. Historically a home to native peoples and a military post under three flags, its facilities have been reinvented as museums, restaurants, hotels, homes, and offices. The Presidio Trust is the federal agency that stewards the Presidio, in partnership with the National Park Service and with support from the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The Trust sustains the Presidio by leasing homes and workplaces and offering visitor amenities. Learn more at presidio.gov.
