Archaeology Stewards

Dig deep into the past as a volunteer with the Presidio Trust’s archaeology program.

Volunteers support Presidio Trust archaeologists as they explore what’s beneath it all – the extraordinary historical record just under our feet

The Presidio Trust manages more than 30 archaeological areas within the Presidio National Historic Landmark District (NHLD). These areas offer a long-term history – from the native Ramaytush Ohlone village established more than a thousand years ago through the more recent period when the Presidio was a United States Army post. Visit our Archaeology page to learn more.

What do Archaeology Volunteers Do?

There are two ways to get involved. Archaeology Stewardship volunteers help with tasks in the field and in the archaeology lab, from sifting soil to processing artifacts. Archaeology Field Station Volunteers greet park visitors and discuss archaeology techniques, including the rich history revealed through the excavation process.

The Archaeology Stewards program is at capacity – we’re not currently welcoming additional applicants. We’ll update this page as new opportunities become available. Please also sign up below to receive a monthly email update from the Presidio Trust volunteer program.
