Races and Runs

Learn how to secure a permit for organized races and runs in the Presidio.

Host Your Event in the Presidio

The Presidio is a popular backdrop for organized races and runs. These events require a special use permit because of the impacts they have on the park’s resources and visitors. These may include:

  • Attendance of more than 30 people
  • Need for road closures, detours, or intermittent traffic stoppages
  • Tents or canopies
  • Reserved parking, valet parking, or shuttle service
  • Food trucks, catering, or alcohol service

Submit a Races and Runs Application

The Presidio Trust issues permits for races and runs on the Presidio’s interior lands, which encompass 80% of the park.

If you’d like to host your event in the park, submit a Races and Runs Application. Permit applications must be submitted a minimum of 10 business days prior to the event date and may be submitted up to one year in advance. If you have questions, contact the Presidio Trust at (415) 561-4200 or outdoorevents@presidiotrust.gov.

National Park Service Permits

The National Park Service Special Park Uses Group manages races and runs at all sites within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area sites, including the Presidio’s northwest shoreline. For information on how to secure a National Park Service permit, visit their website or call them at (415) 561-4301.
