Presidio Theatre welcomes pianist Josu Okiñena and fellow artists Garikoitz Mendizabal and Noelia Ibáñez for a rare, one-night-only West Coast performance exploring the music, history, and cultural identity of the Basque Country. Combining narration, live music, and visual storytelling, the documentary-style program traces the composers, traditions, and influences that have shaped Basque music across generations.
Okiñena leads the journey at the piano, joined by Mendizabal on the traditional Basque txistu and vocalist Ibáñez. Together, the three artists connect centuries-old musical traditions with contemporary performance, offering audiences an immersive introduction to Basque heritage and the stories behind its music. The approximately 75-minute program will be narrated in English and performed without intermission.
Co-presented at Presidio Theatre with the Basque Educational Organization, the evening also supports the future of Basque music. A portion of proceeds will help establish a new BEO program supporting young musicians studying and performing classical Basque music, extending the impact of this special performance to a new generation of artists.
