One of the world’s foremost modern dance ensembles, Paul Taylor Dance Company, brings a dynamic program to Presidio Theatre, celebrating legacy, innovation, and the evolving language of movement. Under the artistic direction of Michael Novak, the Company continues to honor Paul Taylor’s groundbreaking vision while commissioning and presenting works that expand the possibilities of contemporary dance.
The evening opens with Aureole (1962), choreographed by Paul Taylor and set to music by George Frideric Handel. Radiant and lyrical, this landmark work pairs Taylor’s signature movement style with baroque music, creating a timeless celebration of space, joy, and love that remains as luminous today as it was at its premiere.
Next is How Love Sounds (2025), a new work by Hope Boykin, commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Set to an eclectic score spanning Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Patsy Cline, Billy Joel, and Antonín Dvořák, the piece explores the textures and emotional resonance of love through bold, expressive choreography.
The program concludes with Brandenburgs (1988), Taylor’s virtuosic masterwork set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Elegant and exuberant, it exemplifies choreographic grandeur and the seamless union of movement and music.
