Panto in the Presidio returns with Sleeping Beauty this December after a sold-out final week last year. Presidio Theatre’s rendition of Panto in the Presidio is a distinctive San Franciscan take on this globally beloved form of theatre. Originating from British holiday pantomimes, affectionately known as “pantos,” these live performances cleverly parody popular children’s stories and timeless folklore. While pantomime may have its roots in England, today, millions around the world are captivated by its whimsical charm.
Now celebrating its third year, Panto in the Presidio has brought joy to more than 15,000 audience members, both young and young at heart.
If you’re new to the experience, prepare to be delighted! (And watch out for flying candy, it’s all part of the fun.) Panto in the Presidio’s rendition of Sleeping Beauty promises a “wildly funny musical mashup,” weaving a tale of true love, talking dogs, singing chickens, and dancing ghosts, all wrapped in a cocoon of fairy magic that enchants the entire family.
We invite you to join in the cherished panto traditions of jeering at the villains and singing along to popular songs performed by a live band. And don’t hesitate to leap out of your seats to become a part of the action – it’s all part of the magic!
