Okaidja Afroso: Àbor Édíŋ at Presidio Theatre

Presidio Theatre welcomes Ghanaian musician, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Okaidja Afroso for Àbor Édíŋ, the second chapter of his Ancient Africa Wisdom Trilogy. Drawing on his roots in coastal Ghana and a career shaped by music, dance, and storytelling, Afroso brings together ancestral traditions and contemporary influences in a performance that looks to the past, present, and future.

Meaning “Melanin Earth Garden” in the Gãdangmé language of coastal Ghana, Àbor Édíŋ combines guitar, percussion, bass, vocals, and dance with Brazilian rhythms, jazz influences, and intricate arrangements. Joined by a five-member ensemble, Afroso uses music and movement to explore themes of joy, harmony, tragedy, hope, and the endurance of cultural traditions across generations.

Through his distinctive approach to African oral tradition, Afroso creates music that remains grounded in his West African heritage while reflecting the cross-cultural influences that have shaped his work.
