What to Expect at This Event
Look to the skies from the Presidio during International Observe the Moon Night, a free public event presented by the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers and the National Park Service’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Bring friends and family for an evening of astronomy and a closer look at our nearest celestial neighbor.
Members of the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers will have telescopes available and share views of the Moon’s surface, helping visitors spot craters, mountains, and other lunar features. Guests are also welcome to bring their own telescopes or binoculars and explore alongside fellow astronomy enthusiasts.
Whether you’re an experienced stargazer or looking through a telescope for the first time, this community gathering offers an accessible way to learn more about the Moon and experience the night sky from the Presidio. Printed Moon maps highlighting notable lunar features will be available at the event.
