What to Expect at This Event

Presidio Theatre welcomes Nā Lei Hulu i ka Wēkiu – San Francisco’s highly acclaimed Hawaiian hula school (hālau) and dance company – for a special one-night-only performance featuring acclaimed Hawaiian artists Kaumakaiwa Kanakaʻole and Shawn Kekoa Pimental. Blending live music, chant, and hula, the evening showcases a contemporary expression of Hawaiian culture rooted in tradition and shaped by innovation.

A celebrated singer, chanter, and dancer, Kaumakaiwa Kanakaʻole is known for her distinctive approach to Hawaiian music, drawing on ancestral knowledge and deep hula practice to create performances that bridge past and present. Joining her is award-winning producer and musician Shawn Kekoa Pimental, whose work with many of Hawaiʻi’s leading recording artists has helped define the sound of contemporary Hawaiian music.

Together with Nā Lei Hulu i ka Wēkiu, the artists create a dynamic collaboration that pairs original music and traditional influences with expressive choreography and movement. Presented live at Presidio Theatre, this special performance offers audiences an opportunity to experience Hawaiian music and hula through the work of some of its most innovative contemporary practitioners.
