Mountains of the Moon at Presidio Theatre

Presidio Theatre presents an exclusive San Francisco screening of Mountains of the Moon, a film by artist, filmmaker, and professional skier Chris Benchetler exploring the connections between sport, music, nature, and the human experience through the music of the Grateful Dead.

Filmed almost entirely at night, Mountains of the Moon uses cinematography, lasers, animation, and projection mapping to transform ocean, river, and mountain landscapes into a surreal visual journey. Athletes, adventurers, and thinkers move through these environments as luminous figures while the film reflects on nature, resilience, life, and our shared humanity.

For this special Presidio Theatre presentation, Benchetler will introduce the film and the Terrapin Family Band will perform its Grateful Dead-inspired score live, joined by Grammy Award-winning guitarist Eric Krasno. Following the screening, the musicians will return for a second live set without the film, extending the evening from immersive cinema into a standalone concert experience.
