MLK Weekend of Service

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off”. It’s the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage everyone to volunteer to improve their communities.  

This year, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area will celebrate the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy through MLK Weekend of Service – four days of volunteering, with projects happening all-weekend-long throughout the national park, including the Presidio. It starts on Friday, January 17 through Monday, January 20.
