Come to the Presidio as Los Californianos commemorate two significant milestones in American history with Anza 250/America 250: West & East Coasts in 1776. This special event marks the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the 1775–76 Anza Expedition in Alta California and recognizes the pivotal events unfolding on the East Coast during the nation’s founding year, including the Declaration of Independence.
The program features an entry procession, flag ceremonies, historical reenactors in period dress, music, brief remarks, prayers, and a roll call honoring the 240 men, women, and children who journeyed to Alta California under the leadership of Juan Bautista de Anza. Musical performances by Los Arribeños de San Francisco and the Young American Patriots Fife & Drum Corps will represent the cultural traditions of the West and East Coasts in 1776.
Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy complimentary tours of the Heritage Gallery at the Presidio Officers’ Club led by the Presidio Historical Association and San Francisco City Guides. Visitors will also have a rare opportunity to earn the special Anza 250 Anniversary Junior Ranger Badge, available for a limited time through the National Park Service and its partners.
