Chitresh Das Dance Company: Invoking the River at Presidio Theatre

Presidio Theatre welcomes choreographer Charlotte Moraga for Invoking the River, a contemporary kathak work bringing together tradition, collaboration, and innovation. Inspired by India’s sacred waterways, the production uses movement and storytelling to explore our relationship with the natural world and the communities connected to it. 

Drawing on the rhythmic and expressive traditions of kathak, Moraga and her collaborators examine water as a source of life, culture, memory, and connection. The work places classical Indian dance in conversation with contemporary environmental concerns, creating a performance rooted in cultural tradition while looking toward a shared future. 

Described by the San Francisco Chronicle as a “powerfully thoughtful choreographer,” Moraga brings Invoking the River to Presidio Theatre with a message that crosses geographic and cultural boundaries, inviting audiences to consider environmental justice through the language of dance.
