“Being There” at Presidio Theatre 

Experience a special screening of the 1979 classic Being There at Presidio Theatre, launching The Giving Screen, a new film and conversation series supporting the theatre and its resident community programming. Starring Peter Sellers and Shirley MacLaine, the film is a celebrated satire that explores how meaning and authority are assigned through a series of quiet, revealing misunderstandings. Preserved in the National Film Registry, Being There remains a thoughtful reflection on presence, leadership, and perception. 

Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for a conversation with David Shamroy Hamburger, assistant director of the film, and Rev. Victoria Austin of the San Francisco Zen Center, who will offer insights on the film and its themes. A VIP meet and greet and charitable raffle are also part of the evening.
