What to Expect at This Event

Presidio Theatre presents a special screening of After the Thin Man (1936), followed by a conversation with Julie Rivett, granddaughter of legendary author Dashiell Hammett. Part of the theatre’s The Giving Screen series, the evening celebrates one of cinema’s most beloved detective films while supporting Presidio Theatre programming and community access initiatives.

Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, After the Thin Man follows the iconic detective duo through a stylish New Year’s Eve mystery set in San Francisco. Adapted from the characters created by Hammett, the film is celebrated for its sharp wit, memorable performances, and enduring influence on the mystery genre.

Following the screening, Julie Rivett will share insights into Hammett’s life, literary legacy, and lasting impact on crime fiction and film. Guests can also purchase tickets to an exclusive pre-show meet-and-greet reception with Rivett in the Members Lounge, featuring wine, charcuterie, and an opportunity for personal conversation before the program begins.
