Senior Maintenance Technician

About the Role

The Presidio Trust is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician who will support the Buildings Stewardship.  Once an Army Base, the Presidio of San Francisco is now a new kind of national park. The 1,500-acre Presidio is richly layered in history, is a natural oasis for wildlife, plants, and people, and offers iconic views known around the world. In its third decade as a park, public awareness and enjoyment of this exceptional place continues grow.

The Senior Maintenance Technician works under general supervision as a member of a crew and performs a full range of activities related to basic construction trades and maintenance skills to include carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, appliances, and roofing. The Senior Maintenance Technician uses varied skills and abilities to support construction, renovation, roofing, and corrective maintenance work order completion.

This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting at $37.30 per hour, based in the SF Bay Area. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically The Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry duties as assigned, including repairing, patching, applying plaster, taping, and mudding drywall, and building framing as needed. Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
  • Repair/replace plumbing fixtures, sweat copper fittings, repair/replace supply and wastewater plumbing lines, use hand and power augers to clear toilets and sewer lines
  • Use basic HVAC diagnostics to troubleshoot and repair heating/cooling systems
  • Painting of small projects/touch ups to include interior and exterior needs with brush and roller techniques
  • Basic troubleshooting of dishwashers, refrigerators, ranges (gas and electric), and perform necessary repairs
  • Perform basic roofing repairs to include, comp shingle, tile, tar & gravel and rolled roofing, as well as repairs and cleaning of gutters/downspouts.
  • Perform basic electrical installation and repair such as: wire for electrical fixtures; bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit; splice and solder wire; apply tape or terminal caps, and repair or replace lighting fixtures.
  • Leads projects which may include passing on information received from supervisors,
  • and assigning tasks to be performed to individual members of the crew.
  • Assists and trains Maintenance Technicians as needed to include demonstrate proper work methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in general maintenance to include at least three of the following areas: Electrical, Structural, HVAC, Mechanical and/or Plumbing
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
  • Valid Driver’s License

About the Presidio Trust Building Stewardship Department

Background Check and Review

The Presidio Trust has identified this position as subject to an employment background check which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license. An individual’s granting of a background investigation and resulting report is voluntary. However, employment in this sensitive position is contingent upon the successful completion of an employment background check. The Presidio Trust may refuse to hire an individual, may rescind an offer of employment to an individual, or may review and terminate the employment of a current employee not successfully completing the background check.
