High Voltage Electrician Supervisor

About the Role

The Presidio Trust is seeking a High Voltage Electrician Supervisor who will support the Infrastructure Stewardship. Once an Army Base, the Presidio of San Francisco is now a new kind of national park. The 1,500-acre Presidio is richly layered in history, is a natural oasis for wildlife, plants, and people, and offers iconic views known around the world. In its third decade as a park, public awareness and enjoyment of this exceptional place continues to grow. The park includes 477 individually significant historic buildings, about 6 million square feet of office space, and more than 180 historic objects. To date, 325 historic buildings have been fully or partially rehabilitated and are now occupied. Now, these beautiful, historic buildings are revived with new life and new uses for our public visitors, tenants, and employees.

The High Voltage Electrician Supervisor supervises, and coordinates activities of the high voltage electrician crew engaged in construction, maintenance, supply and repair of high voltage electric power, lighting, and related systems for buildings, residences, and roadways. Ensures high voltage electricity is managed and distributed in a clean, safe, and environmentally conscientious manner.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and inspect wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes, both in the field and in substations.
  • Ability to operate and maintain electrical distribution system, both overhead and underground.
  • Ability to establish valid electrical clearances for planned and unplanned electrical events.
  • Ability to restore power in emergency unplanned events.
  • Ability to write switch logs for planned and unplanned events.
  • Inspect wiring and fixtures for conformance to manufacturer and code specifications.
  • Provide production schedules scope of work and estimate to meet requirements for completion of job and project assignments. Estimate, requisitions, and inspect materials.
  • Provide Project Management Services as required for Trust staff and Contractor performed work.
  • Interpret Trust policies, regulations, and is responsible for communicating and enforcing safety regulations to subordinate workers.
  • Interpret specifications, plans, drawings and schematics to workers.
  • Assign and issue work orders to staff. Establish and/or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and promote safety of shop, department, or crew.
  • Analyze and resolve personnel issues.
  • Initiate or suggest proposals to motivate workers and achieve goals.
  • Ensure timekeeping and production records are accurate.
  • Consult with other supervisors and departments to coordinate all high voltage activities as required.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly and indirectly supervises up to five (5) employees.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; conduct performance appraisals; authorize time off; reward and discipline employees; and address complaints and resolve problems.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ten (10) years of experience with increasing responsibility in high voltage system operation and maintenance, together with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; knowledge of applicable state and/or Federal policies, laws, and regulations affecting a full‐ service High Voltage Department activity.
  • Experience should include supervision of municipal‐type services.
  • Must have ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical manuals, procedures, diagrams, schedules, and governmental regulations; ability to write reports; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, residential and commercial tenants, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate requirements for installation, maintenance, and upgrades of electrical and high voltage systems.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Required to reside in the Presidio of San Francisco in government‐provided housing and participate in the after‐hours on‐call program.
  • Respond after‐hours and weekends to emergency situations and unplanned events, such as power outages.
  • Must have a valid State of California Driver’s License.
  • Must possess a State of California Commercial Vehicle Driver’s License or obtain one within six months of employment.

About the Presidio Trust Building Stewardship Department

Our dedicated team of professionals are responsible for delivering power to our residents and visitors in a safe and efficient manner. They maintain substations, overhead and underground distribution facilities, transformers, streetlights, and metering equipment. They maintain and operate the high volt distribution system, but also respond to all unplanned events 24/7, providing 5-star service to the Presidio.

Background & Driver’s License Investigation and Review

The Presidio Trust has identified this position as subject to an employment background investigation which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license. An individual’s granting of a background investigation and resulting report is voluntary. However, employment in this sensitive position is contingent upon the successful completion of an employment background investigation. The Presidio Trust may refuse to hire an individual, may rescind an offer of employment to an individual, or may review and terminate the employment of a current employee not successfully completing the background investigation.
