About the Role

The Presidio Trust is seeking a new Electrician who will support the Building Maintenance Department. Once an Army Base, the Presidio of San Francisco is now a new kind of national park. The 1,500-acre Presidio is richly layered in history, is a natural oasis for wildlife, plants, and people, and offers iconic views known around the world. In its third decade as a park, public awareness and enjoyment of this exceptional place continues grow.

The Electrician plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and is responsible for control of related equipment throughout the Presidio. Our ideal candidate is a team player with excellent communication skills, strong computer skills, and the ability to assess and problem solve.

This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting at $44.45 per hour, based in the SF Bay Area. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically The Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Responsibilities

  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and to avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and electrical codes.
  • Prepare sketches showing locations of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams, blueprints and ensure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, and/or replacement.
  • Repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree (AA) or Equivalent experience from two (2) year college or technical school
  • Four (4) year journeyman level experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working from electrical diagrams and blueprints in order to troubleshoot and repair failed equipment or to make modifications to existing circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively to customers and/or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and to apply concepts of basic algebra and
  • Ability to calculate figures and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code, The National Electric Safety Code, and all OSHA Standards governing the maintenance and operation of high and regulated voltage electrical systems to ensure the safe and proper operation of systems and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of electrical test equipment for troubleshooting and identifying electrical failures to include multi-meters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, fault locaters, and cable locaters.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools and power tools of the electrical trade to include but not limited to conduit benders, cutters, strippers, fish tapes, hoists, winches, and pullers.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license.

About the Department

The Presidio is an extraordinary place to work for the thousands of employees of approximately 100 businesses who lease commercial space in the park. Background Check and Review

The Presidio Trust has identified this position as subject to an employment background check which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license. An individual’s granting of a background investigation and resulting report is voluntary. However, employment in this sensitive position is contingent upon the successful completion of an employment background check.
